I don’t know why these things come as a shock, but sometimes, I honestly just don’t think about them. Of course, here in Texas, it’s big news. Lady Bird Johnson, former first lady during the 60′s, has died of natural causes at the ripe old age of 94. She was among family and friends at the LBJ ranch in the Texas Hill Country west of Austin. It’s always sad to see beautiful people like her pass on, but at least it was a peaceful passing.
I always think of Bluebonnets when I hear the name Lady Bird Johnson, because she founded the National Wildflower Research Center in 1982. During Lyndon Johnson’s presidency, she also promoted the Highway Beautification Act, which limited billboard blight and planted millions of Bluebonnets along thousands of Texas roadways. It’s always been a beautiful sight every spring, thanks to the tireless efforts of Lady Bird Johnson. Rest In Peace, LBJ.
