Merry Christmas everybody!!

Wow whatta year it’s been. I’m collecting my thoughts for the year, but I’m kinda scattered, so it’s taking awhile to get it together. Must be time for coffee.

May the Good Lord Bless us all…

Wow we’re already into the Twelve Days of Christmas! Or are we? I used to think it was the 12 days leading UP to Christmas Day, but a little online research has taught me otherwise…

The Twelve Days of Christmas is probably the most misunderstood part of the church year among Christians who are not part of liturgical church traditions… www.cresourcei.org/cy12days.html

The Twelve Days of Christmas and the associated evenings of those twelve days (Twelve-tide) are the festive days beginning the evening of Christmas Day (December 25) through the morning of Epiphany (January 6 . ) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twelve_Days_of_Christmas

Nothing gets me into the holiday spirit more than a great Christmas carol, like this classic…

On the first day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
A partridge in a pear tree.

OK, I always liked Google Earth. Now webware.com has posted about a cool “easter egg” inside it. Did you know Google Earth has a hidden Flight Simulator? Ctrl-Alt-A enables it on a PC. Then Ctrl-A will activate it.

Ramble On posted about the state of Mississippi losing their only ice skating rink, The Ice Park, in Flowood. www.dcooley.net/

It’s a crying shame to see this happen. How can an entire state simply let go of it’s one and only ice skating park? How can the city of Jackson, the state capitol, not have enough support from local residents who want a safe and fun environment for their kids?

Not to mention the fact that the rink is the only ice skating park in the state of Mississippi. The next closest ice rink is in Birmingham, Alabama. That makes it totally unique, and how can you not want that kind of Olympic attraction in your town?

For your kids? To be part of the community, where our own children can grow into their own dreams and ambitions, to success in whatever brings them happiness and contentment in life.

I say we mount a new campaign right now to bring together all the fine folks involved in ice skating, beginning with the local chapter and branching out to the entire state, calling for support to keep the rink open. A challenge to some enterprising businessman or company to hire those employees back to run the place, and run it by remote control.

Of course, I would nominate my brother and his lovely wife and daughters to oversee and manage the rink, and keep it a family affair. And with the support of the local figure skaters club, the ice skating rink could be financed by a corporation or remote investor with the awareness to see the importance of keeping this enterprise going.

Let’s start a new blog for this campaign. I’ll contribute the domain, and we will put it online in the next few weeks. Hey Bro, let’s setup The Daily Rover for this, and get all the kids to send in pictures of their pets with a cute caption, and Blog to Save Our Ice Skating Rink from being closed down. There must be a way to use the power of blogging to bring together support for a park that’s been a part of the Jackson community for over 10 years!

You go where the fans are, and you make them aware of this great loss to the ice skating community at large, and you might just find enough people with such passion for the sport their kids love, to actually be moved into action.

I don’t know why these things come as a shock, but sometimes, I honestly just don’t think about them. Of course, here in Texas, it’s big news. Lady Bird Johnson, former first lady during the 60’s, has died of natural causes at the ripe old age of 94. She was among family and friends at the LBJ ranch in the Texas Hill Country west of Austin. It’s always sad to see beautiful people like her pass on, but at least it was a peaceful passing.

I always think of Bluebonnets when I hear the name Lady Bird Johnson, because she founded the National Wildflower Research Center in 1982. During Lyndon Johnson’s presidency, she also promoted the Highway Beautification Act, which limited billboard blight and planted millions of Bluebonnets along thousands of Texas roadways. It’s always been a beautiful sight every spring, thanks to the tireless efforts of Lady Bird Johnson. Rest In Peace, LBJ.
