December second is our mother’s birthday. When I say she’s a real angel, I mean exactly that. She watches over us like an angel. It’s almost 10 years ago that she departed this earth, and I think about her even more in December.

She always encouraged us kids to love the life we live. Be thankful and make the most of it and be happy with what you’ve got.

So I’m going to dedicate my blog today to Mom and the music she loved…

Ray Charles “I Can’t Stop Loving You” and “Born To Lose.” These two songs clearly stand out in my mind. Hearing it invokes tender childhood memories of Mom and her Mom. I mean, c’mon…who didn’t love “the father of soul?”

The Coasters “Yakety Yak.” Mom used to twist to this one!

Fats Domino “Blueberry Hill.” Mom loved to dance and couldn’t sit still when this was playing. I can’t sit still whenever music is playing, either! Now I know where I got it from.

Glenn Miller “In the Mood” and “Pennsylvania 6-5000″ stand out, although she loved all their big band stuff.

Benny Goodman. I can’t think of any particular song, but remember watching his life story on TV.

She loved other stuff too, like country, and that was Dad’s big thing. So we watched alot of TV like Hee Haw and Grand Ole Opry. The best thing about TV viewing with the family back then, was Mom’s home made fudge. She would whip it up from the stove and we would take turns with the big spoon. Then she would make popcorn and we would eat it watching those great old TV shows. Mmmm…

So Happy Birthday, Mom, and Merry Christmas!!

God Bless You, our sweet angel.
