Man, what a great Christmas I had. We gathered at grandma’s house for dinner and had the best time. The most wonderful present I received this year was my daughter moving closer to me. It’s really an answered prayer. And I met her new boyfriend, who was really nice. So it was just the five of us, me, my girlfriend, my daughter and her boyfriend and grandma, who cooked a really good meal.

Spending time with family is what Christmas is for. That and counting the many blessing the good Lord has provided for us. Christmas is not about buying presents or how much you gave or got. The over commericalization of Christmas just sickens me, and it gets a little worse every year.

We watched the midnight mass from the Vatican, but could only get it from a local spanish station, so as the Pope was reading in italian or latin, the TV narrator was translating into spanish. But it was still good to see the mass and feel like a part of it. I’d love to actually attend in person some day.

The weather was perfect, so alot of folks were outside. Across the street from grandma’s apartments, there was a mexican family outside playing with their kids with their radio blaring
. Reminded me of growing up in San Antonio, where you heard mexican music everywhere you go.

We brought home pumpkin and pecan pie. I think I’ll go get a slice and look at the newspaper. at all the after Christmas sales going on.

December second is our mother’s birthday. When I say she’s a real angel, I mean exactly that. She watches over us like an angel. It’s almost 10 years ago that she departed this earth, and I think about her even more in December.

She always encouraged us kids to love the life we live. Be thankful and make the most of it and be happy with what you’ve got.

So I’m going to dedicate my blog today to Mom and the music she loved…

Ray Charles “I Can’t Stop Loving You” and “Born To Lose.” These two songs clearly stand out in my mind. Hearing it invokes tender childhood memories of Mom and her Mom. I mean, c’mon…who didn’t love “the father of soul?”

The Coasters “Yakety Yak.” Mom used to twist to this one!

Fats Domino “Blueberry Hill.” Mom loved to dance and couldn’t sit still when this was playing. I can’t sit still whenever music is playing, either! Now I know where I got it from.

Glenn Miller “In the Mood” and “Pennsylvania 6-5000″ stand out, although she loved all their big band stuff.

Benny Goodman. I can’t think of any particular song, but remember watching his life story on TV.

She loved other stuff too, like country, and that was Dad’s big thing. So we watched alot of TV like Hee Haw and Grand Ole Opry. The best thing about TV viewing with the family back then, was Mom’s home made fudge. She would whip it up from the stove and we would take turns with the big spoon. Then she would make popcorn and we would eat it watching those great old TV shows. Mmmm…

So Happy Birthday, Mom, and Merry Christmas!!

God Bless You, our sweet angel.

I am so stoked about this new website I’m working on with my brother David. We call it CybersMusic “Music rants, raves and reviews from a couple of music junkies.” More like ramblings, really. What makes it really cool is that it’s all about music, something we’re really passionate about. It’s totally awesome to work with my brother. He’s really good on the web with just about everything. Especially web design, layout, and marketing. And he’s a great businessman, too.

I’m really enjoying writing about everything and anything to do with music that catches my interest. In just our first week, we’ve covered a Paul McCartney concert, the subject of Christmas music, Johnny Cash, Rush, the concert website Pollstar, and the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.

There’s just so much to write about! Madonna, Jude Cole, Tom Petty, John Lennon, Cyndi Lauper , Bill Clements, The Beatles, Elektra Records and Cordless Music. That’s just the “tip of the iceberg.” I never knew how much I like to write, or realized what a wealth of subjects are just waiting to be revealed.

It’s like looking at the world with a new pair of eyes.
